Barracuda Security identified 43 compromised components in popular open-source agent frameworks, meaning developers may be unknowingly building on vulnerable foundations.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP)—originally developed at Anthropic and now an industry-wide standard—is becoming the “USB-C port” for connecting LLMs to external tools. Google’s Agent-to-Agent (A2A) Protocol, developed with over 50 industry partners, addresses how different agents communicate securely. IBM’s Agent Communication Protocol (ACP), now under the Linux Foundation, provides an open standard for agent lifecycle management.

Deploy comprehensive audit trails. Run red-team exercises testing for prompt injection vulnerabilities. Adopt emerging protocols like MCP for standardized LLM-tool connections.

Stay engaged. Monitor NIST announcements, participate in April listening sessions, and track standards development. These frameworks will evolve over 2026 and beyond, but the foundational decisions are happening right now.
