Companies force generative AI into existing processes with minimal adaptation. The path forward isn’t less AI. It’s realistic AI. Stop forcing AI into existing processes and redesign the work. Build data infrastructure before deploying models. Choose vendor solutions over internal experimentation unless you have the scale and talent to compete with specialized providers. Accept that 12 to 18 months is a reasonable timeline for ROI, not instant transformation. Additionally, acknowledge that 80% of AI projects will fail—twice the rate of other technology initiatives.
The AI wave is real, but so is the profitability crisis. OpenAI is projecting $44 billion in losses before maybe reaching profitability in 2029.
